Making my LITTLE writers WRITE!

Write, Write, Write

This summer I was honored to attend the SDE conference in Chicago, IL. While at the conference I attended two writing courses that really INSPIRED me to put more effort into my writing instruction!

This year I will have 2-3 days each week where we will focus on writing instruction.

This is an activity I did with my class early on. We looked through magazines, found a picture we liked, glued the magazine picture in our journals, and wrote our sentences!

This was the example I gave the class to model their expectations!

Check out what my AWESOME firsties did!
I was SUPER impressed!

Learning Our Centers!

Learning our Centers...

This year I decided to jump right in and start my Literacy Centers at the very beginning of the school year!

** Look back at my previous Literacy Centers posts for detailed info. on how my Literacy Centers work and how I manage them.

So far my FIRSTIES love our CENTERS ....
AND SO DO I!!

Love having the time to meet with small groups in my classroom so that I am better able to meet my students' needs!

This is my Computer Center! This year I am allowing my students the choice of using Teach Your Monster To Read program, or taking AR tests while at the computer! AR is a new adventure for me this year ... but so far my kids are loving it!

Poppin' Adjectives!

Poppin' Adjectives!

We were introduced to Adjectives this week!
I started my lesson by asking my firsties to describe ME!
(This is very risky because firsties have the tendency to be very honest at times)

I was pretty pleased with our Adjective Web!

Then I had my students describe a gift bag with their groups. (not pictured) I told them the groups that could use good adjectives to describe our gift .... would get what was inside the gift bag! Of course all the groups did WONDERFUL!
So they each got ....

They got to eat the candy and then complete a sheet listing adjectives that described their candy! Here are some images of them enjoying their "Adjective" treat!

Reading Street Unit 3 Resource Pack

I just completed
Reading Street Unit 3 Resource Pack
and it is now available at my TPT store!

Here is a sneak peek at the resources available in my Unit Packs:
There is a weekly assessment included for each unit. I use these on Friday as an Oral assessment. I call the students back one at a time and have them read the sections to me. This really allows me to see the individual skills of each student ... and which students need more help and in what areas!

This is an example of the weekly "At a Glance Sheet." I print these and place them on the front of my file folder I have for each story. This is so convenient to glance at and know the skills that are being focused on for that week!

I use my Daily Fix It Sentences as morning work each day. The students come in, pull out their sheet, and fix one sentence each morning. Our morning schedule does not allow for a lot of time for morning work .... if you have more time to fill you could use this differently. Its an easy quick writing activity to throw in your day! PLUS it uses vocabulary and spelling words along with phonic skills that are being focused on for the week!

I use this Fluency Passage as a weekly homework assignment for my little Firsties! It's quick and easy!

My resource packs are filled with Interactive Journal pages for each skill and for each week of the Unit!

Reading Racer is a fun way to practice and gain fluency with your vocabulary words. I allow my students to work in partners each day and time each other! They love seeing their improvement as the week goes on!

Doesn't this look great!?

I'm giving away 2 of my Resource Packs to 2 lucky followers on July 1st!
